Mst. Piara Akter is the Chief Executive Officer and Proprietor of Sylheti Real Estate Agency and a shareholder in Sylheti Real Estate London Limited in the United Kingdom. She was born in Sunamganj, Bangladesh, in 1971 during the Liberation War. Her parents, Md. Afsor Uddin and Mst. Sayara Khatun, raised her with strong values of resilience, faith, and service to others. She studied at Jubilee School in Sunamganj, one of the most respected schools in the district.
At a young age she married Mr. Mofozzul Hussain, a Bangladeshi businessman based in Qatar who was successful in both the real estate and gold trading sectors. With her husband’s encouragement she continued her studies and gained valuable experience by learning from his business activities. When her husband passed away, she was left to raise their three sons and two daughters on her own. Despite the challenges, she worked hard to give them education and opportunities, and today all five children are successfully established in their own fields.
After her husband’s death she carried forward his entrepreneurial spirit by starting her own business in partnership. This grew into Sylheti Real Estate Agency, a trusted company in Sunamganj that offers property sales, rentals, construction, and architectural design services. Over time she became the sole leader of the agency and built its reputation as one of the reliable names in the region. In addition, she invested as a shareholder in Sylheti Real Estate London Limited, a UK-based company that connects the Bangladeshi and British property markets.
Alongside her business career, Piara Akter has become known for her commitment to social welfare and community development. Following her husband’s example, she contributed to the establishment of mosques, schools, and madrashas in her local area. One of her greatest achievements is co-founding the Aktapara Islamia Fazil BA Madrasha, a government-recognized institution that provides both religious and modern education in science, arts, and commerce up to the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree. She also served as a women member of the governing body of Aktapara Islamia Fazil BA Madrasha.
Her charitable work has touched many areas of rural life. She has sponsored deep tube wells to provide safe drinking water, supported local libraries and orphanages, and encouraged single mothers and widows to start small businesses so they could achieve independence. Her constant focus has been education, women’s empowerment, and the welfare of disadvantaged families.
More recently she has been closely involved with the NRB Hospital Project, an initiative led by non-resident Bangladeshis to establish a modern hospital on the Sylhet–Sunamganj border. This project is supported by Bangladeshis around the world and aims to provide international standard healthcare services by 2028. Through her encouragement and leadership the first fundraising event for the hospital secured pledges of 2.5 million pounds. She continues to play an active role in fundraising, awareness, and providing community support to make the hospital a reality.
Today Mst. Piara Akter is widely respected as both a successful businesswoman and a dedicated community leader. She has combined her personal journey of resilience with a life of service to others. Her vision remains clear: to build a stronger and healthier society, to ensure women can live with dignity and independence, and to provide future generations with access to education, clean water, and modern healthcare.
